I first heard about Green Day back in the early 90's when I was playing in a band in the San Jose club scene (Marsugi's, Cactus Club, etc.). The booker at Marsugi's was thinking of managing our band, and his comment, after hearing us live, was that we sounded like a band that plays at Gilman (in Berkeley) called Green Day. I had never heard of Green Day, and wouldn't again for another year. I did think it was a cool name though.

I was driving to work about a year later, listening to KFJC, and they played a track called "Basket Case" off of the new album by Green Day. I was blown away. It was exactly how I would have liked to have my band to sound in my wildest dreams. I bought the album after work, and have been a die-hard Green Day fan ever since.

Green Day is unique, because they haven't radically changed their sound over the years. They've just gotten better, delivering exactly what their fans love. It goes without saying that they have changed the music scene, and made the once dreaded "punk rock" socially acceptable, and in fact the dominant genre of music in younger circles today.
